The Portugal Golden Visa is one of the quickest and simplest ways to achieve European citizenship. By investing in a qualifying investment, you will receive the right to live, work, and study in Portugal – and enjoy visa-free travel across Europe’s Schengen Area.
The program has been extremely popular over the years and consequently has been a target of some politicians due to its perceived effect on property prices. However in reality the Golden Visa was changed in 2023, this excluded residential property as a means to apply for a Golden Visa. In fact this was a very small proportion of property sales as the Government only approved a small number in 2022 due to various factors.
In 2024 there have been a number of positive changes and announcements, mainly driven by legal challenges from customers and also the EU. This has for example reduced the time to Citizenship by the delay in getting the residency cards in the first place.
Also a huge reduction in the renewal fees, it was €953 every 2 years per person, so a family of 4 would have €7,624 in renewal costs over the program.
That has been reduced to just €83, yes €83, no typo! that’s a saving of €6,960 for a family of 4!
After 5 years, you can qualify for Portuguese Citizenship and a full European passport. Almost the entire process is remote, and you only need to spend an average of 7 days per year in Portugal to qualify.
These 7 days can be spread over 2 years, for example, a 2-week vacation covers you for 2 years in the process.

Invest in a qualifying investment
We offer exclusive, innovative options working with our partners in Portugal to reduce the cost of this popular program to just €168,000. This option removes a lot of risk & opportunity cost although there is no return of capital, it is treated as a “donation”.
Get residency
After making the investment, we will obtain your Golden Visa residence permit. You will now have the legal right to live in Portugal and travel anywhere in the EU. You can either live in Portugal or remain in your home country, and you do not have to become tax resident. Physical stay requirements in Portugal are just 1 week per year for 5 years, as explained above
Get your passports
After 5 years, take a basic Portuguese language test and apply for your second passports. You and your family are now permanent citizens of Portugal with the right to live, work, study and retire anywhere in the European Union. These benefits can also be passed down to future generations.
Whilst the Golden Visa is sometimes referred to as Portugal Citizenship by Investment, you must comply with the above requirements to qualify for dual nationality after the 5-year holding period. A direct Portugal Citizenship by Investment program (i.e. passport upon investment) does not exist.
